Building your own brand identity on Instagram
Hi my loves,
today I want to talk about an issue that many of you are involved with and it is one of my daily breads: Instagram. A real treasure trove, a daily dose of many many pictures. For creatives like me it is one of the most inspirational apps beside Pinterest. But this little cute app does also offer some bad hazards. I am sure that you know at least two of them: 1. loss of time and 2. loss of reality!
Please let me explain what I mean:
How many hours a day do you spend with Instagram? 1, 2 or 4? You do not even recognize it every time, it is much more a slow process during the day, often completely unknown. But I guess you are looking at your smartphone several times per hour, right? And time flies.
Well, this is certainly normal for our digital environment and for me it is for work purposes but I also catch myself spending hours and hours with Instagram. Doing that, I do forget the time. There are so many inspirations and much more information and sometimes we are afraid that we are going to miss something. But to be honest: we are not able to see everything what 800 million users are uploading. And we do not need to see everything. It is important to filter out what you would like to see.
Another sneaking phenomenon is this tiny, nasty feeling deep inside which is trying to come out. Do you know what I am talking about? Exactly, it is called envy or loss of reality. The others live the perfect life with perfect pictures, traveling round the world, receiving designer products and their hubby do look like a model? Well, this might mess up your day. But always think about: do not trust any picture you have not faked on your own. I hope that everyone knows that pictures are only a capture of the moment. This is not what a whole life is about. A life has so much more to offer but not everyone is showing everything! Instagram only offers captures, it should inspire and show partial images. We are part of these inspirations!
There are new users every day and every day I see a lot of new, interesting and pretty pictures on my display. But I am not impressed or insecure and that’s the key: always stick to your own style and do not try to imitate anybody! This is something which has never worked out! Something is working for somebody does not mean that it will work for you. And let’s be honest: who wants to see 1000 feeds with the same content and color scheme? Right, nobody. Individuality is most important!
Every day I get a lot of questions how I stick to a consistent Instagram feed.
How do I build my very own brand within the ocean of millions?
I would like to share the following tips with you:
Find your own color scheme
If you follow me you may have noticed that I do have a very own color scheme. This color scheme is 100% me, it expresses my personality in every single way. With other words: you need to find one which is perfect for you and your character. Find a color you will also love 10 months later. You can also play with similar colors.
Create high-quality and interesting content
Sure, without creating high-quality content it is not so easy to build a good looking Instagram Feed. Please make sure that you only upload high-quality pictures. You do not need to buy a full frame camera. Meanwhile most smartphones do also offer very good cameras with a lot of functions. You just need to try a bit and find the right ancle. Variation is also very important. Just think: what would you like to see? Showing the same pose every day is not really creative. Also find your very own niche: Fashion, Beauty, Lifestyle. Whatever, the range is huge.
Learn what your followers love
After a while you will find out what your followers like the most or not. This is also a very important step. You can easily lean on it and build your content continually. With this in mind you should not go wrong.
Show your personality, at least parts of it
Try to take your followers on a journey with you! Show them parts of your daily life. This does not mean that you have to show your Grandma’s birthday party but something they might be interested in. You just have purchased some new items? Start a haul. Whatever it is, followers love to see the person behind the pictures to get to know you a little bit better. Interaction is a good thing, ask them for their opinion!
Have and share your opinion
Having your own opinion is a good thing in general but sharing it on Instagram could be also a boost. It doesn’t matter what you are talking about: if you are engaging voluntarily, loving green beauty or if you are a member of an animal protection organization? Whatever it is, right about it and share your opinion. One thing is for sure: you will quickly find people who share your opinion and feelings.
I hope you enjoyed my first tips of the new category “Blogger ABC”. Of course, this was just the beginning but I can’t reveal my secrets at once 😉 Always remember:
Be true to yourself, the rest will follow!

I joined Instagram as I was curious to see how “it is from the inside … how it lives” … after few weeks I keep hearing that voice in my head “quit, quit, quit” and it’s probably what I’ll do soon … I find blogging very interesting … Instagram very superficial … you can interact on a post on a blog … you put emoticons on Instagram …
Just my 2 cents …

I completely understand you dear! It can be so annoying from time to time. Just like I said. And Instagram is not everything. It is just a capture of the moment. For this reason I have my blog as my main medium and it will always be. I do not think that Instagram will ever crash but sometimes it is really good to take a few days of distance. To be creative again.
Have a great day,

Hallo liebe Monique,

LG Tomasino
