Just Social Media-addicted?
We just need to take a look around. Is there anybody without a smartphone? Well, we do not count the 90 or 2 years old here. So there is nearly nobody without even one smartphone. We do not need to talk about our iPads and iMacs at home at this point. We are always online, up-to-date and reachable. Did you took a look around when you were out for dinne the last time? Couples do not even talk with each other, quite the contrary. They are just playing with their phones, the whole evening.
The perfekt selfie has to be made and of course we need to take a short snap of our food before eating. Virtual likes are worth than real backslappings. But there would be a bigger benefit if we would take a second for a real hug. There are a lot of scientific evidence showing that physical contact is very important and most of all very healthy. It is also more than understandable. I mean have you ever thought about how you really feel when you are scrolling through your Instagram Feed? Somebody is on vacation, Maledives of course, the other one is busy at the fashion week in Paris and Julia shows her brandnew Jimmy Choo pumps. Aargh. And what about us? Well we only have 300 likes and we are actually sitting somewhere in Oer-Erkenschwick. Not very spectacular. So Social Media is only responsible for a very bad kind of jealousy. Day by day, minute by minute. Jfür Minute.
In the end it has only one effect: we are feeling very bad. Why are we sitting here in the f….. middle of nowhere in Germany? We also want to achieve big things and of course experience a fancy lifestyle like the others. Why always just the others? This feeling sucks. I also know it. But most of all it is jsut stupid deficiency. There will always be someone who is supposed to be prettier, richer oder just better. Always, always. always. We cannot fight against this, if we do so, we will only lose our mind.
There is some mobbing in schools just because of Social Media. If you do not have enough Likes or Followers they do not even talk with you. How crazy is this? Where could this lead? Poor society. Most of them do not talk to each other any more. They are only playing with their phones and it doesn’t matter where they are: almost everywhere. Does anyone still has some good conversations with real friends? I mean the oldschool thing with just 2 chairs and a bottle of wine?
Of course I also know that the little things are practical and it is part of my life as a blogger. But, and now I am talking about the big BUT: I am really missing the times without Steve Jobbs. The times when he and his devices were not even more than a dream.
So long time ago you had to take the old fixed phone with a little turntable on it in your house to arrange appointsments with your friends. We just talked on the phone and fixed the date and time. Yes, exactly. And there was no other way to cancel the appointment like doing so with WhatsApp these days. No, no. You were already on your way and could not phone or text anybody. Just imagine!
What I actually wanted to say: we have to be aware that Social Media is not everything at all. They have some big advantages, that’s right, but it is also just a great platform for stage-managed self-portrayal. A perfect PR campaign, a billion dollar business.
And sometimes it is just good to pull off the plugs, put on some walking shoes grap your bff and just take a walk. Thereby we should only concentrate on the most important things: ourselves, our life and our loved ones.
