Palazzo Novello – Hotel Review
Hello my loves,
I am sure that all of you know that feeling you have after a couple of stressful weeks. You just feel like going on holiday and preferably never going back home, am I right?
Therefore, I was more than happy to be able to spend a couple days at the beautiful Palazzo Novello in Montichiari at Lake Garda. With a stunning garden, amazingly warm-hearted hosts, a charming historical building and a looooot of of relaxing, is there anything more to ask for?
The Hotel and the rooms
The hotel is located right in the heart of Montichiari, a little picturesque town near Lake Garda. We intentionally chose this exact hotel to be able to experience the real Italian way of life and still seek for some tranquility away from the very touristy areas of Lake Garda. Well, I can definitely say that Montichiari is made for that! The Palazzo is in the middle of town, surrounded by magnificent walls and little alleys. The entrance to the hotel is a massive historical gate and offers a beautiful view into the impressively majestic courtyard and the beautifully natural garden.
It really is a little gem right in the town center, dreamy and very poetic if I may say so. The Hotel is mot exactly big, it is very familiar and in run by the two charming sisters Kenda and Nicoletta.
Both of them were available for us each and every day of our stay and always had a great advice or a helping hand. They even took us along to a celebration up in the Fort of Montichiari, where we really had an unforgettable evening! Again, we want to thank you so much for this unique experience.
The Palazzo really has a historical atmosphere. As you enter, you can literally feel that the building has witnessed countless event and stories over centuries. Each and every room is individually and uniquely designed. This interior design concept goes back to the sister’s father, who has realized a tasteful and exquisite design of the rooms. The love of detail is so present everywhere that we really felt „home away from home“ and wouldn’t ever want to leave.
We were lucky enough to be able to spend per stay in a spacious suite and truly loved every minute of it. The classic, timeless design and the clever floor plan really contributed to that.
The Breakfast
As I said, the Palazzo is a small and very exclusive hotel. Therefore, they only offer one meal per day – the breakfast (which apparently is the most important meal, right?). However, it is a lot of fun to get food in the local restaurants and cafés for lunch and dinner and implement the Italian diet (as in Pizza, Pasta, white wine :-)).
As we know, Italians like to have a very sweet breakfast which is why the Palazzo offers a variety of „dolci“ (sweet baked good) that really tempt your tastebuds. However, they also offer more hearty dishes, which really complete the breakfast offerings. And I mean, when you can have your coffee in the Hotel’s stunning garden and just enjoy the calm atmosphere and beautiful surroundings, how much better can a day start?
To conclude
The Hotel is a true gem away from the trails of mass tourism. It offers everything you could ask for to spend a relaxed and calming holiday. The atmosphere is unique and almost a bit majestic, the opportunity to stay in a building that is as historical and special truly does not occur often. And although the atmosphere of the Palazzo’s history is still so present and carefully kept, Kenda and Nicoletta consciously implemented modern elements and thereby connected past and present. With all of their work, they created a beautiful place that is truly one of kind! And to end it with their words: we came as guests and we left as friends!
